Anna's movement, for sure, has been an eye opener.  While our struggle to get an effective law to combat  corruption continues; we have gained a lot in the process by learning about participative democracy.

All along, our politicians led us to believe that democracy, at best, meant electing representatives to govern the nation.  They only wanted us to vote and forget about it for the next 5 years.  Let them do whatever they feel like doing because we "elected" them.  They become our rulers for these 5 years.  And, we must stay mute spectators.

No more, my friends!  These elected representatives will have to stay accountable to "People of India" everyday.   Yes, the country will respect and follow democratic processes as per the Constitution of the Nation.  Laws will continue to be made in the Parliament.  But laws will be made according to what the people of this country want.   Representatives will have to continuously listen to people they represent; and not just their party bosses.  That's what participative democracy is all about.

It sure is amazing that there have already been more than one million views for the Re-mix of Kolaveri Di made for Pawar's slap.  And, the number keeps on rising at a very rapid rate:

We might (and should) condemn this action of Sardar Harvinder Singh; however, the fact remains that janta is absolutely disgusted with the so called लोकतंत्र in our country.  There is no respect left for our politicians.  Harvinder Singh and Sharad Pawar are only symbols.  The slap is actually by people on the practiced version of democracy in our country which, to our politicians, is a permit to their autocratic ways of doing things if they get elected.  The irony is that our political leaders are totally in a "denial mode" - almost blind.

Giving Back to the Society......

It sure was a joy to hear Dr Subramanian Swamy last evening.  He is a brilliant speaker.  He was speaking on "Corruption" and how it is damaging our society in so many ways.

One thing clearly stood out:

We need to stop giving unnecessary adulation to money.
Stop admiring people who make a lot of money.  Instead, start admiring people who donate a lot of money.
Give back to the society.
